How Can Yoga Be Used For Weight Loss?
Yoga to lose weight is one of the most popular types of exercise out there. It has been practiced by people of all ages for generations, and it has been proven effective through the years. It's no wonder then that many people are wondering about how to do it.
While yoga practice has many health benefits, the most prevalent result of regular yoga practice is general well-being. There are countless studies out there that prove the positive effects of yoga practice for overall health. However, yoga practice is not just a physical activity, it's a holistic union of mind, body, and spirit at once. But again, even if you are not overweight, there are different types of Yoga which will help you shed pounds, both through toning your muscles and through burning calories.
One of the most common forms of yoga is Hatha yoga. It is also probably the easiest type to do. Basically, you do stretches and poses on a mat, working your way from your toes to your head. The purpose of doing this is to loosen up your muscles, improve flexibility, and increase circulation. By working the entire body, you allow it to become more strong and resilient, making you stronger against injury.
Another way yoga can help with weight loss is through its active forms, or Asanas. Most commonly, yoga practitioners like to use Asanas that forces the muscles to work. For instance, there is a specific pose called the Sukhasana that focuses on forcing the muscles of the lower spine to extend, creating a stretch in them. Because these kinds of movements require energy, you will burn calories even while you're not doing them.
There are other exercises that also push your metabolism. One example is Hatha Pratyahara, which forces your body to expel toxins through sweat glands. This not only burns calories but helps keep your skin looking healthy. The final part of any yoga session is Anuloma Viloma, which is a breathing exercise designed to let us find freshness and spiritual satisfaction throughout the day. It requires deep breathing and relaxation, which, again, forces you to let go of stored emotions and stored food cravings.
Not all of these exercises are strictly physical though. Some are mental and introspective, as well. One of the best things about yoga is that it allows you to reflect on your own mental and emotional state. By meditating regularly, you'll become aware of patterns in your thinking, feelings, and behaviors. Through this reflection, you will begin to see patterns of overeating, laziness, complacence, etc., and you can begin to break these patterns.
This doesn't mean that you can't use yoga for weight loss. It does mean, however, that you need to remember to use it in conjunction with a regular workout routine. As mentioned, you'll want to incorporate as many yoga poses into your regular routine as possible. Remember that the purpose of these poses is not merely to tone your muscles and keep your joints supple. The goal is to create mental and emotional balance, which allows you to let go of excess baggage and live a more fulfilled life. If you burn fewer calories when you practice yoga, you will also be allowing yourself to live a longer life.
When combined with proper diet and regular exercise, yoga exercises can be a powerful weapon against belly fat. Its unique combination of mental and physical awareness allows you to train your mind and body in ways that traditional exercise only dreams of. Not only can these exercises help you shed pounds, but they can also increase overall health, which is always a good thing.
